Short Description of the structure
Built in the 12th century, as evidenced by the excavations in the courtyard, the castle of Lecce is known with the name of Castle of Charles V since its definitive and actual configuration is the result of the sixteenth-century restructuring ordered by the Spanish king. Today the firts floor of the Castle hosts temporary exibitions, events, fairs and conferences. The dungeons, the papier-mâché museum and the Santa Barbara chapel are open to the public on special occasions.
